Senior Project Manager in AI for Combat Aircraft

Aeronautics business unit Advanced Programs is in an exciting phase. In 2025, we developed support for and allowed AI to take the controls during air combat in the Gripen E fighter jet as one of the first actors in the world. We are now ready to take the next step to develop the technology and our capabilities. Therefore, we are looking for a senior project manager who wants to drive our next initiative in AI for combat aircraft.

Your Role

With us, you will be part of the Engineering & Project Management section, which is tasked with leading and supporting the business with project and technology management. You will work alongside helpful, driven, and knowledgeable individuals who all want to be part of creating the future of airborne defense. We believe in a culture built on trust and collaboration, where we work together for continuous improvement to meet the demands for speed and flexibility that the market requires.

In your role, you will be responsible for:

• Leading projects where we develop reliable AI-based decision support using techniques such as reinforcement learning, mathematical optimization, and planning, with the goal of maturing the technology for operational use by conducting large-scale simulations and flight tests in Gripen E.
• Defining and creating conditions for conducting cutting-edge technology development efficiently to meet market demands.
• Working closely with our external partners to create the frameworks needed to support an effective development operation.
• Ensuring, together with others, that Saab achieves its goal of becoming a world leader in AI for combat aircraft.

We are looking for an experienced leader who enjoys challenging projects with significant technical content in both depth and breadth. You are accustomed to working with various interfaces in a constantly changing environment. As a person, you are solution-oriented, results-driven, and enjoy collaborating with others. As a leader, you are attentive to the needs of teams and customers, present, and clear. You have a drive for change and thrive on challenging even established practices and methods.

We also see that you are used to working on high-profile complex projects with many interfaces and are motivated to be part of cutting-edge technology development. You will become one of the key individuals on our journey with the goal of becoming world-leading in AI for decision support focused on the air combat domain.

Competencies:

• Several years of experience as a project manager for complex projects with significant technical content where software has been a central part. Experience from projects where AI components have been an integrated part is an advantage.
• Experience in leading projects where speed and change have been a natural part.
• Familiarity with working across multiple interfaces both internally and externally, where you have been part of defining collaborations and frameworks for effective working methods.
• Ability to create structure, transparency, and good communication within and between teams.

The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the applicable security protection regulations. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, this may involve citizenship requirements in certain cases.
